For over 30 years, our institution has been aiding and complementing
a series of development projects located principally in the Cuzco
and Apurimac geographical departmental areas. These territories
can be visited by the students in order to grasp and realize local
and regional realities. Some of these projects are mentioned below.
Rural
Services
This
project is oriented towards improving the efficiency and enabling
capacities of indigenous authorities and specialised committees,
as well as the formation of leaders within rural communities, in
order to improve the organisational and management capabilities
in the community and to raise their participation and representation
in the decision-making process in local forums. Moreover, we offer
advise, through legal aid in the city and in the countryside, in
a variety of relevant rural topics.
ORTAM DID
The
Oficina Regional Tecnica de Apoyo Municipal (ORTAM) has as its main
objective the personal development of local governmental authorities
and the creation of leaders to improve and reinforce the mechanisms
of participatory management and consensus building. On the other
hand, it facilitates processes of drafting and implementing strategic
local development plans with the participation of overall population,
as well as providing normative and managerial instruments.
Scatter Democracy LUCCA
This
project assists countrymen in their fight against intra-family conflicts
and cattle thief, encouraging the establishment of forums for dialogue
and the creation of local and regional watch patrols (rondas campesinas).
Additionally, it assists in the exchange of experiences between
communities, in strengthening the judicial actors in the community,
and in advising in the legal and physical healing of indigenous
communities as well as assisting in the creation of committees to
form and control watch patrols.
Textiles Project
This
project holds workshops for associations of traditional weavers
in topics such as organisational management, production techniques,
and in ways of strengthening their cultural identity. It supports
the commercialisation of their products via fairs and cultural exchanges.
Welcoming the Campesinos into the city
This
project creates a free space for cultural exchange amongst peasants,
and provides training for regional communicators. The peasants are
welcomed in the city of Cuzco, in the premises of the Casa Campesina.
