Thirty years in the heart of the Andean world

The Centro Bartolomé de las Casas (CBC) was founded in 1974 in the city of Cuzco. Its main objective is to create forums to discuss local problems allowing the Andean communities to get actively involved in their own destiny. The CBC has three main programs. These programs have been successful in educating and creating an ideal environment to further academic research and cultural interchange.

The Colegio Andino program was founded in 1986. Its primary objective is to recognize the diffusion, integration and institutionalisation of local and cultural knowledge and the improvement of its main professionals and scientists. The Escuela Andina de Postgrado offers a Masters Degree in Social Sciences with mention in Anthropology and History, Law and Society, Andean Linguistic and Environment and Development. Furthermore, the Colegio Andino offers Spanish and Quechua courses, better known as the language of the Incas. The Colegio Andino has a two star hotel "La Casa del Escribano" which is well equipped for conferences, seminars and lectures.

The Casa Campesina program was founded in 1985 as a program directed towards the needs and endeavours of the peasantry. Its main activities are to counsel, guide and accompany the local communities and governments in their own organisation, planning and in solving conflicts through the view of the Andean world. These activities are completed through non-profit services. Additionally, the Casa Campesina offers accommodation and a set of meals for outside visitors.

Ultimately, the Editorial program is an instrument that intends to the most recent contemporary research theses concerning the Andean world. At the moment the Editorial catalogue includes over three hundred titles in Andean history files, Andean oral tradition files, Andean linguistic files, Journals on the history of the evangelisation of Latin America, and Andean regional debates, among others
